It is the duty of every muslim to maintain the safety of everybody within their community and to other communities and not cause harm to others whether intentionally or otherwise. The current pandemic has now seen a change in the virus that makes it easier to catch and can be easily passed on by interactions with other people or by touching a surface a carrier has touched even if the carrier has no symptoms of signs of illness. As a result of the increasing death and infection rates from coronavirus and the increased transmissibility of the virus we have decided to take the following steps to protect the muslim community, the Imams and the wider general public.
· Rugby Mosque will NOT be open for Jummah so please pray Zuhr at home.
· The 5 daily prayers will be limited to the downstairs hall only at a reduced capacity.·
The 5 daily prayers will be led by a member of the local muslim community, i.e. no Imams will be brought in from outside Rugby.
Many masjids including some of the largest in the country have decided to fully close because of the threat of virus transmission to the public.
The Government message is to stay at home unless absolutely necessary, for example, if you cannot work from home or you need to buy food from the shops. If you do travel for one of the allowed reasons then this should be within your locality, i.e. do not travel to other towns to go to a masjid because the one in Rugby is closed.
The Mosque and Imams National Advisory Board have advised “that the vunerable and elderly are strongly advised NOT to attend the masjid and nobody should feel any pressure to visit the masjid during the pandemic.”
Narrated Saud: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If you hear of an outbreak of plague in a land, do not enter it; but if the plague breaks out in a place while you are in it, do not leave that place." Usama b. Zaid reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had said: Plague is the sign of a calamity with which Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, affects people from His servants. So when you hear about it, don't enter there (where it has broken out), and when it has broken out in a land and you are there, then don't run away from it.
